Pakokku District
Pakokku District (Burmese: ပခုက္ကူခရိုင်; also Pagukku District) is a district of the Magway Division in central Burma (Myanmar).[1] The administrative centre is the city of Pakokku.
In October 2011, 7 wards and 95 villages were flooded because of heavy rain from tropical storm 02B which made a landfall at Myanmar-Bangladesh border on 19 Nov. All 4 townships of the District except Yesagyo were affected. 161 people were dead or missing according to Government data but total dead was more than 300 according to local news. 2657 households became homeless. 5 monasteries, 4 Dhammayons, 8 schools and 2,927 animals were destroyed. The total loss in the flood amounted to 1,522.95 million MMK, according to official data. UN agencies and international nongovernmental organizations such as WFP, UNICEF, BAJ and others donated 6,800 bags of rice, 18,390 viss of edible oil, 36,828 viss of gram and 3285 viss of salt worth US$ 261,620, 500 kilos of bleaching power, 440,000 tablets of water guard, 2,200 bottles of water guard, 2,200 sets of commodes, 2,2000 cakes of carbolic soap, 2,200 sets of water family kit, four 400-gallon-capacity fibre water tanks worth US$ 53,782, 287 viss of edible oil, 3,442 packets of instant noodle, 1,642 viss of salt, 821 tinned fish, biscuits, cakes of soap, aluminium pots, torch lights, dry cells, steel bowls and T-shirts worth MMK 3.46 million.[2]

Pauk Township is a township of Pakokku District in Magway Division of Burma (Myanmar). The principal town and administrative seat is Pauk.
The township lies between 21° 10' and 21° 49' north latitude and 94° 18' and 94° 44' east longitude.[1] It has an area of 1,490 sq.mi.[1] The principal river is the Kyaw River along the banks of which rice is grown.[1]
The Burmese government has denied that chemical weapons are produced at the military facility there.[2]

Seikphyu Township [2] is a township of Pakokku District in Magway Division of Burma (Myanmar). The principal town and administrative seat is Seikphyu. The township has its southeastern border along the Irrawaddy where its principal town, Seikphyu, is a port. The township lies between 20° 51' and 21° 15' north latitude and 94° 09' and 94° 48' east longitude.The Yaw River forms the township's eastern boundary.[3] It is one of the areas destroyed by Cyclone Giri on 23 October 2010.[4][5][6]

Economy[edit]
Agriculture is the major economy of the township. Onion from Seikphyu Township is famous in onion market of Myanmar. Onion is grown along the sandbank of Yaw River from December to April.
Secret projects[edit]
The State Peace and Development Council is constructing 2 secret nuclear suspected military projects on the northern side of Seikphyu Township along with other secret projects in Mindon, Padan, Pwintbyu, Sidoktaya, Salin, Pakkoku, Laung Shay (in Saw Township) and Saw Townships.[8] Actually, the sites in Seikphyu Township are 2 factories for the production of military weapons and are not the nuclear projects.

Yesagyo is the easternmost township of Magway Region. The Chindwin River and then the Irradwaddy form the eastern boundary of the township except for a small area on the eastern side of the Chindwin directly across from the town of Yesagyo,[2] which area was formerly an island in the Chindwin.[3] Yesagyo Township is bounded by the following townships:[4]
- Salingyi Township, Sagaing region, to the north;
- Chaung-U Township and Myaung Township of Sagaing Region, to the northeast;
- Myingyan Township and Taungtha Township of Mandalay Region to the southeast;
- Pakokku Township to the southwest; and
- Myaing Township to the west.
Sights[edit]
The wooden Pakhangyi monastery on brick foundations was constructed by King Mindon in 1886 and restored ion 1992.[5] In 1992 the Pakhangyi Archaeological Museum was opened there. In 1996 Burma applied for World Heritage Site status for the site.[6]
